The past year and a half has been, well, challenging.
And I definitely went through some rough spots, moments where I was certainly not my best self.
In fact, I was a bit of a mess. I was stressed, cranky, irritable, and exhausted.
I'm doing much better now. I'm more optimistic about the world. My kids are able to play with their friends, most of my family and friends are vaccinated, and things are looking up.
But it seems to me that I never quite shook off the stress of the past year. I'm still carrying some of it with me , and it's weighing me down. And I bet I'm not the only one.
All I keep thinking is, "I just need a break!!!"
And do you know what? I think you might need a break too.
I think we need a day off to go somewhere beautiful, away from all the chaos, and practice recharging together.
Are you ready?
If you’re in the New York area, and you're ready to find some peace and quiet, take the day off and join us on Long Island’s North Fork. Often referred to as wine country, the area boasts some fantastic shops, towns, and restaurants for you to check out.
We're planning an incredible evening of nature, connecting with new friends and practicing mindfulness at Pindar Vineyards on Wednesday, July 28.
And if you've decided to take the afternoon off, here are some great stops to make along the way!
Greenport:
Greenport is a small village towards the eastern end of the North Fork. The population is about 2500 people. Located right on the water, Greenport is a great place to find restaurants and vintage shops
While you're there, check out Aldo’s Coffee Company. Open every day from 9-5, this local coffee joint had been roasting coffee and baking biscotti since 1987. Owned by Aldo Maiorana, Aldo is loyal to all customers and will teach you the right way to make and enjoy a fresh cappuccino.
Check out the Pizza:
What better way to enjoy your day than go on a pizza adventure. There are many pizza places on the North Fork, Grana Trattoria Antica in Jamesport; Pizza Rita, aMano Restaurant, and Lombardi’s Love Lane Market in Mattituck; are just some of our favorites. They all make amazing wood-burning pizzas using fresh and local ingredients. Let us know which is your favorite!
North Fork Flower Farm:
If you love nature check out the North Fork Flower Farm. This small flower farm offers both public and private workshops on flowers. You will be able to create your bouquet hand-picked from the field. All workshops last about two hours. Open every day from 8 am till 4 pm and located at 1110 Terry Ln, Orient, NY 11957, this is a stop you won’t want to miss.
East End Seaport Museum & Marine Foundation:
The East End Seaport Museum is a dream for anyone who loves the ocean. Check out the museum, open Wednesday-Sunday from 11-4 pm, Lighthouse tours and boat cruises are available on any day of the week when they are open. Enjoy some time on the water to get away from all the hustle and bustle going on at home.
Sunflower Fields:
The sunflower fields on the North Fork are some of the most beautiful in the area. Check out the variety of fields that are open only during the summer months. Most places let you take pictures, walk around and pick your sunflowers at a cost. If you need some sunshine in your life, this is a place to check out.
Restaurants:
There are so many restaurants to check out on the North Fork but our favorites are Love Lane Kitchen and Farm Country Kitchen. Love Lane Kitchen is located in Mattituck and serves upscale comfort meals with a café vibe. They are open everyday of the week and if you're craving some comfort food, this is a place you won't want to skip out on. Farm Country Kitchen has beautiful riverfront views and uses the freshest of ingredients. It is open Wednesday through Monday from 11:30am to 11pm.
Pindar Vineyards:
End your day at Pindar Vineyards, located at 37645 Main Rd (Rt 25) Peconic, NY.
We invite you to join us for an evening of mindful drinking, where we'll combine nature, good friends, wine, and mindfulness so you can be calm in the chaos.
